HISTORY - NOBILE Umberto (1885 - 1978) - Typed letter signed Typed letter signed, dated “September 12th 1960” by the Italian aviator, aeronautical engineer and Arctic explorer. In 1918 he designed the first Italian-made parachute. In 1922, he designed the first Italian all-metal aircraft, the Caproni Ca.73. He is also remembered for the unfortunate crash of the airship “Italia” during the exploration of North Pole in 1928. Addressed to Ronald Petter, concerning a publication: “…You will be now have received my air-mail letter saying that I was sending the proofs, and possibly also the galleys themselvers, which were dispatched (Express) yesterday. I am now enclosing further addition, to be inserted at the end of the section entitled: “Our Arrival at Port Clarence”…”. 1 p. In-4. With letterhead “Gen.
