LITERATURE - GIONO Jean (1895 - 1970) - Autograph quotation signed Autograph quotation signed, dated “26 X. 46” by the French writer. Throughout the nineteen-thirties, Giono expressed the pacifism he had adopted as a result of his experiences during World War I in novels such as Le grand troupeau (1931), and pamphlets such as Refus d’obéissance (1937), and the Lettre aux paysans sur la pauvreté et la paix (1938). From his novel “Un roi sans divertissement” (1947), Giono states: “On ne peut pas vivre dans un monde ou l’on croit que l’elegance exquise du plumage de la pintade est inutile”. 1 p.
