HISTORY - GARROS Roland (1888 - 1918) - Photograph with autograph signature Photograph with autograph signature of the French aviation pioneer and fighter pilot. He performed many early feats such as the first-ever airplane crossing of the Mediterranean Sea in 1913. He joined the French army and became one of the earliest fighter pilots during World War I. Garros was shot down and died on 5 October 1918. The shot takes Garros while flying on the “Demoiselle”, a Clement-Bayard 35 HP plane, at the Aérodrôme of Gayeulles in 1910. On postcard.
