In his 1924 PhD thesis, he postulated the wave nature of electrons and suggested that all matter has wave properties. This concept is known as the de Broglie hypothesis, an example of wave–particle duality, and forms a central part of the theory of quantum mechanics. In 1929, he won the Nobel Prize in Physics after having demonstrated the wave-like behaviour of matter. Addressed to the physicist Marc Jouguet (1905 -1982): “…j’ai lu avec un intérêt particulier votre belle note qui fait le point des résultats que vous avez obtenus sur les guides courbés. Je la ferai passer aux comptes rendus lundi prochain en vous demandant d’en corriger les épreuves comme d’habitude. Je me réjoins de vous entendre résumer vos travaux dans la conférences que vous avez bien voulu accepter de faire à l’Insitut Henri Poincaré…”. 2 pp. In-8.
