Erotic vessel with bow handle spout - Peru, Moche, probably 800-1000 AD - The body in the form of a pair of monkeys. Ceramic with black glaze. H. 19.5 cm. - Signs of age, the handle glued or restored several times. - Such realistic and lively depictions are typical for the stirrup vessels of the Moche culture, mostly made of black-glazed ceramic. It is unclear whether such erotic vessels are to be classified in a ritual or religious context or simply as an expression of joie de vivre.
