Mwai mask of the Iatmul - Papua New Guinea, Sepik River - Elongated, narrow form, tapering into a sculptural boar bust at the chin, linear painting in black on a red background, the lower part and the forehead decorated with cowrie snails, boar tusks in the nose area. Wood. 107 x 25 x 22 cm. - Signs of age and wear, small losses, one tooth missing, the other chipped, drying cracks. - From a southern German private collection.
