Maternity figure, probably of the Bena Lulua - Congo (?), Central Africa - A herm-like figure of a mother and child on a round pedestal, neck and arms with articulated rings, elaborate plaited hairstyle, scarification marks on various parts of the body. Wood with pigmentation in black, red and white. H. 83.5 cm. - Signs of age and use. - From a southern German private collection.

She wears four traditional rings and presents in her hands, but does not yet have the scarification marks typical of the Lulua ethnic group. Mid 20th century. H. 45 cm. Worn patina, cracks.
