Anthropomorphic ceremonial spoon of the Yakuba (also: Dan or Gio) - Liberia or Ivory Coast, West Africa - The handle in the shape of a female abdomen with slightly bent legs, long boat-shaped bowl; belly and wall with geometric incised decoration. Hardwood. L. 45 cm. - Signs of age. - Such ritual spoons, also called wakemia, wunkirmian or po, are used by women to feed the masks and men at ceremonial feasts; cf. I.
