Description
Silesian Baroque cup with mythological depiction - Ohlau, c. 1670 - Christan Metze the Elder (Mstr. 1662-1691). Conical shape with slightly flared lip rim; two large reserves on the wall with scenes from Ovid's Metamorphoses with Thisbe as the main figure, once fleeing, once mourning the dying Pyramos, surrounded by large, chased Baroque flowers; monogram engraving under the rim. Silver, gilt inside. Marked on the base with the master's mark "CM". H.15,5 cm; 210 g. - Hintze: Silesian goldsmiths, p. 65+66.
