Bucket weight - Nuremberg, 17th century - Sebastian Künstel (1631-1693) Beaker-shaped bronze case with bow and locking latch in stylized animal form, the wall decorated with punched scales, complete with ten brass inserts. Stamped with master's mark "SK" with Easter lamb, number "4" and French fleur-de-lis, also all weights with French fleur-de-lis. H. 12.5 cm, Ø 11 cm. - Cf. lit. H.P. French school of the 17th century. "Saint Sebastian". Polychrome carving. Measurements: 88 cm. In this work, Saint Sebastian is represented tied to the tree, although he does not keep the arrows already stuck in his body. Of young and athletic aspect, as it is normal in the representation of Saint Sebastian, he looks ahead with his head slightly lowered, accepting his martyrdom with serenity and faith. As is common in the imagery of this period, the scene has been depicted with great dramatism, seeking to transmit to the faithful the suffering of the saint, his physical pain, through the depiction of his posture. The polychromy seeks naturalism in the flesh tones.
