Martinuzzi, Napoleone (attrib.) - Rare decorative handle vase - (Murano 1892-1977 Venice) Design for Zecchin Martinuzzi, c. 1932. Fused ovoid body with short tubular neck on a round, slightly high arched foot, decorative handles rolled into volutes on the sides, the rim of the mouth with circumferential fused glass thread. White underlaid, cream-colored smoked glass, handle and mouth black glass with melted gold flakes. H. 35.5 cm. - The manufactory was founded in 1932 by the sculptor Martinuzzi and the engineer Francesco Zecchin and was represented at the Biennale in 1932 and 1934. Although the manufactory had to close at the end of the 1930s, it had a great influence on the other glass manufacturers in Venice.

Napoleone Martinuzzi (1892-1977) Vase circa 1930 In green pulegoso glass signed with Venini Murano acid under the base H. 31 cm D. 24 cm Provenance: > Private collection, Italy Condition report: Perfect condition, no scratches, no chips or accidents Napoleone Martinuzzi is an Italian sculptor, designer and glass artist. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice before joining the Cà Pesaro group. In 1917, he befriended writer Gabriele D'Annunzio and became his protégé. A few years later, he was appointed director of the Murano Glass Museum, a post he held for ten years. Inspired by the work of Vittorio Zecchin, he created pieces in blown glass, often playing with the transparency of the material. Then, at the end of the 1920s, he turned to a more personal style and began a series of sculptures in pulegoso glass, featuring brightly-colored containers, cacti, fruit and animals. His work has been exhibited extensively in Italy, and he has taken part in the Venice Biennale on several occasions.
