Artist information: Prof. Wilhelm Ferdinand Schauss/Schauss also Guillaume Ferdinand Schauss, German portrait and genre painter (1832 Berlin to 1916), studied at the Royal Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin under Carl Steffeck, from 1856 he studied in Paris under Léon Cognie, travelled to England, Holland, Belgium, Italy and Spain to study portraits by great masters, from 1874 professor at the Grand Ducal Saxon School of Art in Weimar until 1876, then returned to Berlin, known for mythological scenes and portraits.
