18th-century iron and silver-inlaid abumi of characteristic form, an encircled peony flower crest surrounded with a geometric pattern, the interior retains the original wood lining decorated in red lacquer. The sides and underside also inlaid. Signed by the maker. Edo period. Provenance: Private collection in Pennsylvania. Dimensions: H: 9 1/4 in., (23.5 cm.) L: 10 1/4 in., (26 cm.) Very good.
