Tibetan bronze lidded butter lamp for a Buddhist monastery altar. MAde of pierced and hand-hammered gilr-copper alloy. The lids have lion dogs or foo dogs as finials. The light of the flame of the butter lamp represents the "wisdom of the awakened mind"Most Tibetan household and temple altar displays include a butter lamp. The design od the lamps is a multi-tiered lotus blossom with decorative granulation on the edges. Provenance: Private collection in Pennsylvania. Dimensions: H: 18 in., (46 cm.) The pair is in fine condiiton with very minor dents and expected signs of wear.

Boldly cast, seated in dhyanasana on a lotus pedestal, holding a curved drum stick in one hand and a drum in the other. The priest wearing heavy robes falling in curving folds over his legs, his face detailed with a long mustache and an urna, all below an ornate crown. The base is sealed and cast with a double-vajra.
