A LARGE LACQUERED WOOD FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI A LARGE LACQUERED WOOD FIGURE OF BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI Burma, 19 th century. Buddha is depicted seated in dhyanasana on a high tiered pedestal with foliate designs and bands of petals, holding his right hand in bhumisparsha mudra and the left resting in his lap. Wearing a close-fitting sanghati with elaborate jewelry, his face is set with a serene expression, downcast eyes, full lips, pendulous earlobes, and a tall crown. The ketumala separately carved. Each side of the pedestal set with a loose ring. Condition: Good condition with wear, natural flaws, age cracks, remnants of gilt lacquer, nicks, chips, and expected losses.
