Slovakia Order of the War Victory Cross III Class Badge Civil Division 1942 Barac# 76; Silver 51,7x35,6 mm.; With blue enamels the Slovak (patriarchal) cross decorated with emanating rays between the each of the six blue enamelled arms, with clusters of linden leaves at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions, marked "987" (silver) and assay office marked "K" (Kosice) on the pin, vertical pinback, intact enamels, very light contact; original name: Vojenný vitazný križ; The War Victory Cross was instituted on September 11, 1939 by the Nazi-German-backed government of the Independent State of Slovakia in three classes and amended in 1942 and 1943 in five classes and three medals. The Order is unusual in that the colour of the enamel indicates the class of the award, red being used for the I Class and II Class, blue for III Class. It was Slovakia’s third highest award, granted for military leadership. In all, some 3.769 awards of all classes were made, of which 437 were to members of the German armed forces and 142 to those of Romania. The Order is rare in all classes.; Condition-I
