Paris, Jean-Baptiste Coignard, 1714. 8 volumes in-4, mottled havana calf, ornate ribbed spine, lemon or red morocco titles and giblets (period binding). First edition finished by P. M. Bullot, and illustrated with 811 engraved plates of religious costumes. Contains: Volume I, the orders of St. Anthony, St. Basil and the other founders of monastic life in the East, with the military orders that followed their rule. - Volume II, the congregations of Canons Regular and Canonsess Regular, with the military orders related to them. - Volumes III and IV, all the various congregations and military orders that have been subjected to the rule of St. Augustine. - Volumes V and VI, all the various congregations and military orders that have been subjected to the rule of S. Benedict. - Volume VII, the orders of St. Francis and others which have particular rules. - Volume VIII, all secular congregations of either sex and military orders and orders of chivalry which are not subject to any of the rules of religion. A good copy. Ex-libris of the Beauvais seminary. Corners and a few headpieces restored, slight haloing to some leaves.
