Bluhm, OskarOfficer and lady. Circa 1900. Pen and ink drawing, partially heightened in white. On wove paper. 37 x 30.5 cm. Signed and inscribed "Meissen". With inscriptions verso. Mounted in spots on support, matted and framed under glass. - Along the margins with a short tear with barely noticeable loss and circumferential traces of former mounting, also verso. The work is a model for an illustration in the "Meggendorfer Blätter". - Bluhm studied at the Dresden School of Arts and Crafts and at the Academy of Fine Arts. He later became a pupil of Ferdinand Keller at the academy in Karlsruhe. From 1892 he worked in Meissen. His specialty was the art of illustration. For a long time, he worked for the Munich satirical magazine "Meggendorfer Blätter" and mainly painted scenes with glamorous ladies and scenes depicting the life of high society. Bluhm spent the last three years of his life in a psychiatric institution near Leipzig. Pen-and-ink drawing, partly heightened with white. On wove paper. Signed and inscribed "Meissen". On the verso with insciptions. Spot-mounted to mat, presented in a passepartout and framed under glass. - Along the margins with a short tear with little noticeable missing part and surrounding traces of the former mounting, also on the verso. There with traces of studio work. At all good. Finely drawn and humorous scene with accomplished light-dark contrast.
