The red cards each contain a question for the female players, which are often aimed at love affairs: "Etes-vous amoureuse" - "Connaissez-vous les tourments d'amour" - "Etes vous sentimentale" etc. The blue cards offer answers: "Quelquefois" - "Pas trop" - "Comme toutes les femmes". - With slight signs of wear. The Learned Elephant. Large questionnaire. (Saussine. Paris. Circa 1910). L'Éléphant savant. Grand questionnaire. (Saussine. Paris. Circa 1910). Wood-cardboard box, size 33.5 x 33.5 x 5.5 cm. Color lithograph on lid: on a circus ring, a clown in front of a small blackboard questions an elephant at his side. An educational game to test players' knowledge. Inside the box is a large cardboard disc that can be rotated on a central axis. Question-and-answer sheets can be placed on this disc, which is then covered with cardboard decorated with a large chromolithograph (same illustration as on the lid) and fitted with two slots: one where the clown's right hand is (where the questions will appear), the other under the elephant's mouth. Turning the disc reveals a question on the clown's side and its answer on the elephant's. The game comes with ten different questionnaires, each with 64 questions and answers. The questionnaires bear the initials FP, those of François Pfeiffer, who invented the Universal Questionnaire game in 1899. Rules on a (4) pp. in-8 booklet. The box has been reassembled, the lithograph on the lid is rubbed.

Cardboard box, size 19.8 x 14 x 1.5 cm. Chromolithography on the lid: a young boy, standing on a chair, hands cards to three children around a table. The box contains 24 oblong cards, format 9.5 x 6.7 cm, square corners, chromolithographed, white backs. French edition of this game containing twelve question cards and twelve answer cards. The question cards (1a to 12a) show an activity, a trade: horse racing, ploughing, steamboats, deep-sea miners, hunting, schools, locomotives, balloons, watermills, carpenters, roofers, firemen; the answer cards (1b to 12b) show the tools and instruments needed for the corresponding activities. This is a highly educational game, with children discovering all the objects involved in the trades. In perfect condition.

Games. Jeu des fables de La Fontaine. [Paris], Simonin Cuny, [c. 1890]. Nicely illustrated cardboard box (35 x 42 x 6 cm). Lotto board game complete with 6 lotto cards with 48 tokens, 9 pictures, 2 baskets, game rules and a collection of fables. The chromolithographed cover features the fabulist surrounded by animals in a medallion. This game was published by Simonin Cuny, a Paris publisher at the end of the 19th century. He was the creator of board games, card games, puzzles, question-and-answer games, and small games of balance and skill, all marked with his initials "S.C.". A good copy. The box is in need of restoration, as the lid, which is not missing, is partly detached, as is the bottom.
