A FINE SHAKUDO FUCHI AND KASHIRA DEPICTING WATER BUFFALO A FINE SHAKUDO FUCHI AND KASHIRA DEPICTING WATER BUFFALO Unsigned Japan, 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868) Bearing a superb shakudo-nanako ground, the kashira decorated with three suigyu (water buffalo) standing and reclining in gold, suaka (copper), and shakudo takazogan, each with golden horns. The fuchi with five oxen similarly in gold, suaka, shibuichi, and shakudo takazogan, some speckled with gold or shakudo. HEIGHT 3.8 cm WEIGHT 39.3 g Condition: Very good condition, minor wear.

Pair of nineteenth-century candlesticks of sculptural type, with two patinated bronze putti that gracefully turn their torsos to hold with turned arms the torches in the form of horns of plenty. The cornucopias are of gilded bronze. The sculptures are perched on white marble bases.
