Lazzaro Efisio Cabras (attr.) Cagliari 1833 - Pisa 1913 Portrait of Antonia Irene Risos as a child Oil on canvas, 120x60 cm. (slight falls in color) Coming from a cosmopolitan family, Antonia Irene Risos was born in Florence on November 21, 1876. Orphaned by her father, she moved to Pisa and grew up with her mother Wilhelmina Augusta Walker, a companion of Lazzaro Efisio Cabras, a painter and watercolorist. She was formed in a very stimulating cultural climate. In 1903 she was among the first women to graduate in medicine from the University of Pisa where, in 2010, an exhibition and a book entitled "Stories of Uncommon Women" was dedicated to her.
