Ireland - O'FLAHERTY (Roderic) & HELY (James). Ogygia, or, a chronological account of Irish events; collected from very ancient documents, faithfully compared with each other, and supported by the genealogical and chronological aid of the sacred and propane writings of the first nations of the globe. Dublin, W. M'Kenzie, 1793. 2 vol. in-8, blond half-chagrin with corners, spine ribbed, title page (modern binding but boards preserved). First edition of the English translation of this work by the Irish historian and bard Ruaidhrí Ó Flaithbheartaigh or Roderick O'Flaherty (1629-c. 1716-1718). Ogygie is the name of the mythical island where Calypso's cave was located in the Odyssey. According to ancient texts, it is located in Malta (Gozo) or off the coast of Morocco (Perejil), but O'Flaherty (after researching the writings of Plutarch) also likened it to Ireland, the only island west of Brittany. As it takes 5 days to reach the island, other authors have even likened it to Newfoundland, Greenland or Iceland. Rare. Some foxing. Ex-libris JM.

Paris, Ladvocat, 1839. 5 vol. in-8, green half calf, finely decorated smooth spine, gilt title and tom. Second edition of this travel report (undertaken in 1834 and 1835), here supplemented by the fifth volume (following in identical binding) of the Duke of Ragusa's voyage to Sicily published in 1838 (original edition). Spines sunned, scattered foxing, without atlas, otherwise a fine set.

DLM published in April 1967 for the exhibition of MIRO's paintings, bronzes, ceramics, inks and collages at the Galerie Maeght. Text by Patrick Waldberg "Le Miròmonde". Poems by André Frénaud "Deux oiseaux fabuleux à Altamirò" and Shuzo Takigushi "Itinéraire". 5 original color lithographs (1 triple-page), 5 color lithographs (2 double-page) and 22 black reproductions. A very good copy, preserved in the publisher's gray cardboard wrapper.

He is one of the leading specialists in this field. Good condition. Fine consignment to Louis Lavigne, author of a work on the Meuse dialect. Ex-libris Claude Hirtzmann.
