John the Baptist Depiction of the Jewish preacher of repentance and Baptist of Jesus, scantily clad in a fur robe and holding a cross staff by a stream in a wooded landscape, John's right hand points to a lamb, which stands for the Son of God Jesus, impasto, religious genre painting, oil on old softwood panel, 18th/19th cent, unsigned, the painting ground somewhat warped and woodworm stained, old retouches, somewhat in need of restoration, framed in a gilt stucco frame, rebate dimensions approx. 25.5 x 3.5 cm.
