FRENCH SCHOOL (17th century) "Latona punishing the peasants of Lycia". High heddle tapestry. With marks from Paris and from the workshop of François de la Planche. It is part of the series of ten cartoons of the History of Diana that Toussaint Dubreuil (1561 - 1602) painted and that was reproduced in the Louvre workshops for a long period. The scene narrates an episode from Ovid's Metamorphoses in which the goddess Latona turns some peasants into frogs, punishing them for not letting him quench her thirst. Measurements: 356 x 307 cm
