Finely carved and reticulated as Guanyin seated on a lotus throne backed by a flaming mandorla, the face with downcast eyes and full lips, surmounted by a tall chignon, and flanked by pendulous earlobes, her right hand holding a lingzhi spring and in her left hand a pearl. The translucent stone of a pale yellow-celadon color with tiny gray specks and cloudy white inclusions. Provenance: German private collection. Condition: Very good condition with minor wear. A BODHI SEED AND JADE PENDANT NECKLACE A BODHI SEED AND JADE PENDANT NECKLACE China, 20th century. Strung with 100 polished beads carved out of lotus seeds and a jade pendant, carved as two rats resting atop a lingzhi mushroom, one bat carved to the verso, the stone of a dark green color with brown areas. Provenance: Hungarian private collection. Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and natural imperfections. The jade with light scratches and tiny nicks. Weight: 50.8 g Dimensions: Length 42 cm (when fastened) Bodhi (lotus) seeds are rich in tradition. It was underneath a Bodhi tree that the Buddha Shakyamuni sat before his Enlightenment—hence its seeds represent spiritual promise and a sense of dedication and faith in nurturing the "seed" of practice.
