The Goddess of Mercy seated in royal ease, holding ruyi scepter in one hand, wearing voluminous robes cascading in voluminous folds, the hair arranged in a high chignon covered by a cowl. Covered overall with splashes of green, ochre, aubergine, and transparent glazes, save for the base. The back with a circular aperture. Condition: With some wear, firing irregularities, and a repair to the ruyi scepter and the neck. With losses to the flowers on her right shoulder. Provenance: Holzapfel collection, Geneva, Switzerland. This lot was acquired by second generation members of the Holzapfel family after 1970 and has remained in the family ever since. Finely modeled as a Buddhist lion seated on a rectangular plinth, the right paw resting on a brocade ball impressed with flowers. The body decorated with a row of spirals along the legs and a finely incised curly mane along the back. The face with a wide snout above an open mouth revealing a sharp set of teeth and fangs, bulging eyes below curly eyebrows, round ears, and a tassel tied around the neck. The figure covered in a white glaze. Provenance: Austrian private collection. Condition: The figure with some wear, few losses, small chips, hairlines, and firing irregularities including cracks. With possible repairs across the head and body. Weight: 1,614 g Dimensions: Height 34.3 cm
