Description

JOAN REIXACH (Documented in Valencia between 1431 and 1486) "Virgin in Majesty" Tempera and gold leaf on panel. Despite its obvious damage, this interesting 15th century panel can be attributed to the painter Joan Reixach, one of the main promoters of the Hispano-Flamenco style in the Kingdom of Valencia. Central panel of an important dismounted altarpiece dedicated to the Virgin, the painter shows the titular image as in his other works: enthroned and holding the Child Jesus in her lap with her right hand, while with her left she blesses and carries a goldfinch. Surrounded by a large celestial court, two angels kneel at her feet offering her two vases with flowers. Her strong Eyckian imprint is evident in some details of the work such as the rich textile decoration and the sumptuousness of the decorations with gems and pearls. Measurements: 151.5 x 91 cm.
