Paris, Garnier frères, 1853-1854. 12 vol. large in-8, black half-chagrin, spine ribbed with gilded fillets, gilded title and tomaison (period binding). Complete with engraved frontispiece, portrait of Buffon, 161 colored and gummed plates including 4 maps. Scattered foxing or browning, angular or marginal brown spotting to some volumes, qqs rare serpents stuck to the engravings, flyleaf of volume VI detached, paper strip torn on the first cover of the last volume, otherwise good overall.
