Smoking pipe with head. Islamic territory, Nasrid period, ca. 13th century AD. Ceramic. Good condition. Provenance: Collection M. H. Molina, Granada / Ars Histórica Arqueología, Spain, 2017; On display: Museo Colección Ifergan, Málaga (2018-2020). Measurements: 4 cm. In Al-Andalus it was common to smoke hashish and other types of opiates, which were introduced into the peninsula in the Caliphate period and remained until the Christian period, passing through the Nasrid period, to which the pipes to which we refer belong. These pipes would be formed by a hollow bowl containing the narcotic, which in this case, due to Sassanid influence, would be decorated with an anthropomorphic face, and a conduit, the part where it is smoked, which could be made of wood or of the same ceramic paste.
