Set of six heads; Tatilco, Chupicuaro Maya Culture, 100 BC - 800 AD. Terracotta. Measurements: 6 x 4 x 2.5 cm (larger); 4.5 x 3 x 2 cm (smaller). Tlatilco was a civilization developed in the Valley of Mexico during the Middle Preclassic period, between 1500 and 500 BC. They developed a pottery of important Olmec influence, and within their ceramics they emphasize specially their human figures. There are two types: large, hollow and painted red, or small, solid and manufactured with great delicacy, generally representing naked young women wearing elaborate headdresses.
