Honoré Daumier (1808 Marseille - 1879 Valmondois): Cinderella Losing his shoe in the shape of Italy on the stairs, c. 1866, Lithography Technique: Hand colored Lithography on Paper Inscription: lower left monogrammed: "H.D. 27". At the center inscribed in the printing plate: "ACTUALITÉS | LA nouvelle Cendrillon". Upper right numbered in the printing plate: "104". Date: c. 1866 Description: Without text on the reverse. The artwork is a satirical depiction of an opulently dressed woman rushing down the stairs of a palace. The word "AUTRICHE" is emblazoned on her dress. In reference to the fairy tale of Cinderella, she loses her shoe on the landing, which corresponds to the shape of Italy.
