CARACCIOLO (*1761) after WILKINS (*1767), City wall of Pompeii, 1819, Aquatint Ludovico Caracciolo (1761 Rome - 1842 ) after Henry Wilkins (1767 - 1847 ): Ancient city wall of Pompeii North side of the city on the Gulf of Naples, 1819, Aquatint Technique: Aquatint on Paper Inscription: At the lower part signed in the printing plate: "H. Wilkins del. / L. Caracciolo inc.". At the lower part inscribed in the printing plate: "Murs de la ville". At the lower part further inscription: "Auf der Nordseite der Stadt". Date: 1819 Description: The depiction shows the fortifications of the lost city of Pompeii under a clear sky, embellished by the sunrise and lush vegetation.
