Four manuscripts by Hector GUIOT on CHAUMONT and LANGRES Haute-Marne & Old Chaumont. Sketches & Notes by Hector Guiot, Officier de l'instruction publique. One volume. 19 by 28.5 cm. A set of 18 folio notebooks, 6 to 8 leaves each, housed in a cardboard folder with the illustrated cover on the 1st board, black cloth spine. The spine is torn, the rest of the book in very good condition (only one quire, on a different paper, shows some foxing). Some quires are dated, from 1875 to 1897. All are illustrated, sometimes in watercolor or wash, and the texts are handwritten. Some titles: L'antiquaire, souvenir du pays Langrois. One might think that these small illustrated texts were destined to become a complete work one day. With La Haute-Marne historique & pittoresque. Chroniques & Imaiges. Chasteaux féodaux, portes anciennes, moustiers & prieurés, Eglises & chapelles, pourtraicts. By Hector Guiot, artist-painter, public instruction officer, 1892. One volume. 34 by 40 cm. 35 plates on cardboard, leaves in period green half-percaline folder. Covers illustrated in color (very fine second cover). A few traces of moisture on the folder, crease on the second cover, foxing on the edges of the boards (not serious). The pencil and watercolor drawings are framed with explanatory text. They are either directly on the boards, or laminated. Fouilles de Nogent de Roy, Mont Saon, Monuments de Langres, monuments de Chaumont, Braulx, Dinteville, etc. With La Haute-Marne; Chaumont and its environs. Life sketches. Hector Guiot, public instruction officer. One volume. 26.5 by 35 cm. 17 strong boards with laminated pencil drawings, plus three isolated drawings. In a contemporary half-brown cloth folder, 1st cover illustrated with a mounted sanguine. Cloth cut. Scattered foxing. With Around Chaumont. Life sketches by Hector Guiot, public instruction officer. 1896. One volume. 26.5 by 35 cm. 9 strong boards with mounted drawings, in a contemporary red half-percaline folder, one illustration mounted on the 1st board. Binding in very good condition, with scattered foxing. This collection is characterized by drawings mostly subdivided into two or three parts. Locations are indicated, and are dated 1896. 4 very fine manuscripts. They do not appear to have been published. Hector GUIOT, born in Langres, was Professor of Drawing at the Lycée de Chaumont, then Curator of the town's museum, where he died. His interest in this region is understandable.
