Date: c. 1840 Description: Against an expansive sky with sparsely accentuated cloud formations, a calm body of water appears, on which a sailing boat with a slightly tilted mast is the central motif. Plainly designed figures sit and work on the boat, while the shore with its scattered piles and littered flotsam introduces a limited profanity into the idyllic scenery. The subtle inking evokes an atmosphere of stillness and contemplation.
