Robert Thomas Wilson, History of the British expedition to Egypt ; to which is subjoined, a sketch of the present state of that country and its means of defence. London, Roworth, 1802. In-4, portrait-XXI-354p. First edition of this history, complete with five plates (three maps and two tables). Provenance: Lambart family, Earl of Cavan, with a 19th-century bookplate with arms and the handwritten mention "Bought by me in Cairo January 1902 Alfred Lambart" and below, from the same, later: "my grandfather's bookplate ... Cavan .. from general Hely-Hudchinson added by me. A.L.". The grandfather is Richard Lambart, 7th Earl of Cavan (1763-1837), who served under General John Hely-Hutchinson (1757-1832) during the events in Egypt in 1801. Half-chagrin with corners, muted spine, cloth-covered boards. Small angular wetness at the beginning and end of the book (before the current binding). A good book.
