Unknown (18th), Facade Thomass House Munich, 1771, Etching Unknown (18th century): Facade of the Thomass House Munich, Alte Hauptwache, 1771, Etching Technique: Etching on Paper Inscription: At the center inscribed in the printing plate: "ELEVATION DE LA FACADE DU CORPS DE GARDE DU COTE DE LA PLACE". Lower middle dated: "1771". Date: 1771 Description: The present picture presents a print that is divided into two sections. The upper section depicts an opulent allegorical arrangement framed by mythological figures and decorative elements, suggesting a solemn scene. The lower section shows the elevation of a classical building, whose strict symmetry and regular window arrangement indicate a public or state purpose, as emphasised by the text. According to the inscription on the reverse, this is the old Hauptwache, or the later Thomass-Haus in Munich.
