KRAUS (*1655) after UFFENBACH (*1687), Emblematic collage, Etching Johann Ulrich Kraus (1655 Augsburg - 1719 ) after Johann Friedrich Armand von Uffenbach (1687 Frankfurt on the Main - 1769 ibid.): Emblematic collage for joy and satisfaction, 17th century, Etching Technique: Etching on Paper Inscription: At the lower part signed in the printing plate: "J. F. ab Uffenbach Frater Germanus delineavit. / J. U. Krauss sculpsit.". Inscribed in the printing plate: "SOCIETATE GAUDENT / NON SIBI SOLUM / ABSINT PROCUL FUCI / DULCIS AMICORUM RECORDATIO / Z. C. ab Uffenbach hanc Amicis Bibliothecam suam invisentibus Tesseram esse voluit, ipseg invenit.". Date: 17th century Description: The artwork presents four finely crafted vignettes within lavish, ornamental frames that form a closed, circular structure and appear to depict thematically allegorical illustrations. At the centre is a Baroque-inspired emblem with decorative scrollwork and Latin inscriptions, possibly suggesting intellectual and moral motifs. The engraved style and detailed elaboration emphasise the mastery and meaning inherent in the scenes depicted. The centre emblem is printed on its own paper and mounted on the base sheet.
