Segato, a chemist by profession, traveled to Egypt for a trading firm in 1818. In the company of engineer Lorenzo Masi, he explored and mapped a vast area south of the wadi Halfa and the Blue and White Nile. Many plates have been reincorporated from works by Denon, Gai and others, but some are taken from Segato's own original drawings. Blackmer 1521; Gay 2266. 2 large folio volumes, 490x340 mm. Defects on the bindings, some foxing internally, more pronounced in some places, slight veiling of humidity on the outer margin of some plates. First edition. Segato, a chemist by profession, went to Egypt for a commercial firm in 1818. In company with Lorenzo Masi, an engineer, he explored and mapped a large area south of wadi Halfa and the Blue and White Niles. Most of the plates have been re-engraved from standard works by Denon, Gai etc., but a number are after original drawings by Segato himself.
