HOJITSU: A WOOD OKIMONO OF AN ELDERLY MAIDEN AND CHILD HOJITSU: A WOOD OKIMONO OF AN ELDERLY MAIDEN AND CHILD By Hojitsu, signed Hojitsu Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) Finely carved, the old woman balances a wood tray on her head with a tea box, tea pot, and cups, as a young boy looks up at her with a pleading expression, gesticulating dramatically. The maiden wears heavy roves open at the chest, and the young boy wears sandals and finely carved robes, both with bone inlays. The figures are supported on a wood stand with three bracket feet. Signed on an oval tablet of bone, HOJITSU. HEIGHT 23.1 cm Condition: Fair condition with wear, expected age cracks, small nicks, and repairs and restorations. Provenance: Czech private collection.
