NASA. Superb orbital observation (2/3) of Typhoon Yuri. Observed from the space shuttle ATLANTIS (Mission STS-44), the spectacular Typhoon Yuri began to form more than 1,000 miles off the coast of the Philippine Islands. In the background, we see terrestrial limbo at the junction of the Earth and the vacuum of space. The Typhoon's winds, which cause this impressive swirl of clouds around its eye, range from 145 to 170 miles per hour. November 1991. Vintage chromogenic print on "KODAK" paper. His harpsichord had 60 small glass plates that were made to glow when the keys were pressed. Castel hoped that thanks to his instrument's ability to paint sounds, even a deaf listener would be able to enjoy music. - Pp. 300-334 in the lower centerfold. Centerfold waterstained, overall good copy. Physics. Color theory. Music. - First edition. With 2 copper plates. Cont. boards, vellum spine with inked manuscript title. An important early book linking color and music by the French mathematician Louis Castel, whose main claim to fame is the clavecin oculaire. He claimed that thanks to his instrument's capacity to paint sounds, even a deaf listener could enjoy music. - Pages 300 to 334 with water stain in lower white margin.

Large in-8, red chagrin, richly decorated smooth spine, large gilt plates decorating the boards with framing double cold fillet, gilt roulette on the edges, cold-stamped inner border, gilt edges (period binding). First edition illustrated with a folding map of Holland and Belgium and 62 steel-engraved plates after drawings by William Henry Bartlett, including an engraved title with vignette, 22 views of Holland and 39 of Belgium. A superb copy in full contemporary rocaille binding, in very rare condition. Some very slight foxing.

Headcap damaged, corners dulled, some spotting, cuts worn in places. Illustrated with a fleuron on the title, 2 folding maps, 3 culs-de-lampe and 3 vignettes on the head. A few small freckles, some light marginal spotting, small angular worm gallery. Jean, sire de Joinville (c. 1224 - 1317), French chronicler. Seneschal of Champagne, he left his province to accompany King Louis IX to Egypt (1248). His Memoirs are, in fact, the story of Saint Louis, which he tells as a somewhat naïve witness, but with a keen sense of observation.
