[Brazil]. Photo album. Sl, [c. 1935]. In-4 oblong (23 x 32 cm), brown embossed paper-covered boards, muted spine, drawstring, first cover detached (period binding). Set of 182 photographs relating to Rio de Janeiro (141) and Petropolis and its environs (41). The photographs are unsigned, but almost all have handwritten captions written in white underneath. The captions are generally in French; a few are in Portuguese. For Rio de Janeiro, the photographs show coastal views, wooded landscapes and picturesque sites (Sugar Loaf, Christ the Redeemer statue, Tijuca forest, Botafogo bay, Copacabana beach, Botanical Gardens), port facilities, avenues (Rio Branco, Niemeyer), squares (Maréchal Floriano, Place de Paris), official buildings (Congress, Municipal Theatre), buildings (Gloria and Central hotels), lively stages (Carnival), etc. As for Petropolis, located 68 km north of Rio, they show a general view, the main squares and avenues, the train station and the surrounding area (road from Rio to Petropolis).
