Olympic Games/ Summer, 1960/ Rome. Superb torchbearer in white porcelain, on a base scratched with the five rings on the front. One might be tempted to date this piece to the creation of the torch relay in 1936, but the wear of the torchbearer (shoes, shorts, undershirt) suggests Roman caution. One thing is certain: the relay will be beautiful, and the flame clearly visible. H: 25.5 cm (base: 7.5x7). The torch, the torch and the relay have become major Olympic collectibles... While the torch is still at the top of the list, other items such as medals and illustrations (posters, photos) are finding an ever-wider audience... In fact, this is a theme which, on its own, warms up our classics nicely... TBE
