Tsoona Stella (Haida, 1937-2014). Carved wooden mask titled "Portrait Nax'Nok" depicting a solemn expression, 1990. With painted features and applied fur along the head as well as along the upper lip. Inscribed title, signature, and date along the verso. The Haida Nation are an indigenous Native American group that live near the Pacific Northwest coast of British Columbia, Canada. In Haida culture, "Nax'Nok" is a concept of cosmic-bestowed strength. Height: 13 in x width: 14 in x depth: 6 in.
