17th century Chinese parcel-gilt bronze censer or incense burner with Hu Wenming mark. The top band with scrollwork; the lower rim with scrolling floral and foliate motifs; the central register with mythical beasts and creatures against a landscape. The background with finely incised lines. With two handles in the form of open-mouthed dragons breathing fire. Inscribed along the base with a six-character Yunjian Hu Wenming zhi (Made by Hu Wenming of Yunjian) mark. With further painted characters along the underside. Height: 3 1/2 in x width: 9 in x depth: 6 1/4 in. Weight: 1,249.6 g.
