AN EXQUSITE WHITE JADE ‘RAM’ CARVING, LATE MING TO QING DYNASTY AN EXQUSITE WHITE JADE ‘RAM’ CARVING, LATE MING TO QING DYNASTY Jade. China, late Ming (1368-1644) to Qing dynasty (1644-1912) The translucent white jade with some inclusions is carved to depict a reclining ram with its fore and rear legs drawn at the sides of its belly. The head looks forward, with eyes, nose and jaw indicated by incised lines. Figures of rams enjoy a long history, since they already appeared in tombs from the Han Dynasty as lamps or terracotta figures. The ram, for the Chinese, manifests peace, prosperity and filial piety. A very attractive miniature carving. HEIGHT 2.6 cm, LENGTH 3 cm Provenance: Private collection of Irene and Wolfgang Zacke (1942-2022).

AN ARCHAISTIC PALE YELLOW AND RUSSET JADE DISC AND BLADE, GUIBI, QING AN ARCHAISTIC PALE YELLOW AND RUSSET JADE DISC AND BLADE, GUIBI, QING China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), most certainly 18 th century. Masterfully crafted in the style of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, showcasing a superior level of craftsmanship quality achieved through the painstaking manual work of carving and chiseling, without the use of modern tools as indicated by the absence of any modern tool marks. The disc carved to one side with small spirals with differently oriented ‘tails’ within inner and outer raised borders, the blade is crossing the disc and carved with archaistic scrolls. The semi-translucent stone of a pale yellow tone with russet areas and veining. Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and minuscule nibbling here and there. The outer rim with a small chip. Provenance: Estate of Wolfgang Zacke (1942-2022), co-founder of Galerie Zacke, thence by descent. Acquired in the Hong Kong antiques market in the early 1990s.
