Description

Late 19th century Chinese lacquered wood seal chest. With metal fittings and handles of foliate forms; one fitting along the lower half of both doors in the form of a yin-yang symbol that may swivel to secure both doors shut. The doors along the front open to reveal an interior with one large drawer along the lower edge of the chest as well as six small drawers; two drawers affixed to the inside of each door and two small drawers within the main body of the chest. The lid flips open to reveal a mirror and red lacquered vanity surface. There are painted accents throughout the exterior depicting flowers and birds as well as a painted scene along the facade of the chest depicting two figures on horseback. (Closed) height: 8 1/2 in x width: 10 1/2 in x depth: 13 1/4 in.
