Tibetan thangka, 19th century. "The wheel of life". Mixed technique on fabric. It has slight flaws in the paint and wear on the side borders. Measurements: 71 x 51 cm.; 81 x 61 cm. (frame). Tibetan thangka with representation of the wheel of life or mandala, with representation of Indo-Buddhist divinities. The thangka is a type of Tibetan painting used by Buddhists for meditation, also known as “walking temples” due to the nomadic life of the Tibetans and considered one of the best expressions of Tibetan art. Buddhism maintains that there are Six Realms of Samsara or Existence in which consciousness is confined in a cycle of successive births from which it only emerges when it reaches Enlightenment.
