According to ANTOINE-DENIS CHAUDET (France, 1763-1810). Berlin, ca. 1820-1830. "Bust of Napoleon as Roman emperor". Zinc. Measures: 60 x 32,5 x 26 cm. Chaudet was a French sculptor of neoclassical style. He began his artistic training as a student of Jean-Baptiste Stouf at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. In 1784, his bas-relief "Joseph, sold into slavery by his brothers" won the Prix de Rome. He studied in Rome, but returned to France in 1802 to paint marble portraits of Napoleon. In 1805, Napoleon liked this representation of himself in the skin of a Roman emperor, and it was adopted as Napoleon's official portrait until 1810. Chaudet became a member of the Institut de France and, in February 1810, took the position of professor-rector at the École des Beaux-Arts.
