Description

Chalice. Cordoba, XVIII century. Punched silver. Weight: 358 grams. Marks on the base. Measurements: 22 x 14 x 14 cm. Cordovan chalice in punched silver, with the interior of the vessel in vermeille silver. It is made within a late baroque style, specifically following the criteria of the refined baroque, based on the expression of the structure, limiting the ornamentation to the slender foot and the base. The refined and classic aspect of the baroque can be appreciated in a very well thought structure, with a shaft composed of a shaft that advances rococo elements. Strings of ovals border a projection, harmonizing with the sinuous outline of the stem. The knot is based on the classic vase shape typical of the baroque chalice, but its profile moves towards what will become the quintessential rococo knot: the inverted pear. Otherwise, we see a succession of horizontal layers, ranging from the circular foot with step, through the various elements of the shaft structure in which balusters of cylindrical and mixtilinear forms are combined. The calyx is crowned by the cup.
