Table clock; France late 19th century and China, Qing dynasty, Guanxu period, 1875-1908. Gilded bronze and enameled porcelain. Measurements: 33 x 31 x 15 cm. Table clock made of bronze and enameled porcelain. The piece sits on a base that houses two Foo dogs, or lions made of enameled porcelain and glazed deep blue glaze flanking a vase. Behind them, the body supporting the clock case emerges as a branch. From this branches sprout in turn ending in enameled porcelain flowers. The case has a white dial with Arabic numerals in black and gold-colored openwork hands. As for the style of the piece, it is evident that it responds to a taste for orientalizing. A fashion that had already begun in XVIII and that spread throughout Europe for the design of interiors, decorative objects and furniture. This interest in elements of oriental culture intensified during the 19th century, largely thanks to the commercial opening of China and Japan, compared to previous periods.
